Mallorca | La isla Bonita – Natural Wonders

Alright, so as you can see Mallorca is basically a postcard came to life. It’s the place you daydream about when you’re stuck at work, staring out the window. Yepp… This is Mallorca – … the largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands, a destination that perfectly blends natural beauty with rich history, cultural heritage, and modern luxury.

When you think Mallorca, you probably think of all-inclusive resorts, and maybe a wild night or two in Magaluf – not judging… okay, maybe just a little. And yeah, it has that side – but Mallorca is SooOooOo much more than just a party island.
I would recommend renting a car, so you can roam around freely on this beautiful island. Also, the hotels, and getyourguide.com does offer a wide variety of day-trips to different parts of the island – it’s really worth it to leave the hotel, I promise. 🙏 It has so many treasures all around – stunning beaches, little villages, mountain views…

Mallorca’s Beaches: Sun, Sand & Se… riously Blue Water

Well, you’re in luck because this island has some of the most stunning beaches in Europe. – and over 200 of those. So no matter what kind of beach bum you are, don’t worry, I’m pretty sure there’s something for you. Want secret caves? Adventure beaches? Rocks? White sand? Surfing mayhem? Party vibes? Sorted. Now, let me show you my favorites…

Platja Es Trenc
It’s one of the most famous beaches in Mallorca, often compared to the Caribbean because of its insanely blue water.

Platja de Muro
6 km long crystal-clear, shallow, and super calm. Perfect if you’re traveling with kids or just want an easy, relaxing beach day.

Calas de Mallorca

These hidden bays all around the island are like little slices of paradise, with crystal-clear water, dramatic cliffs, and a peaceful vibe. A must-visit for anyone wanting to experience Mallorca’s natural beauty at its best. It can be really crowded during summer, so try to arrive earlier during the day to avoid the people and the parking chaos.

Cala de Ferradura + Mirador de Es Pontas

Cala Llombards

Cala Figuera + Port de Figuera
It’s like a miniVenice – … a beautiful coastal village with its fishing harbor, hiding deep in the bay. It’s Totally worth a visit, I think.

Cala Sa Nau

Cala Varques

Cala del Moro

Cala d’Or

Adventures: Because Mallorca is more than just Tanning and Mojitos on the Beach

Sa Calobra Beach
It’s one of the island’s most unique beaches. Located at the end of a gorge, this beach is surrounded by steep cliffs. The river has carved its way through the mountains, creating a deep, narrow passage all the way to the sea. It’s a bit remote, but once you get there, the effort feels totally worth it – duh.

Torrent de Pareis
It’s quite a challenging hike in the previously mentioned gorge – 4 kilometers one way, and it takes 3 to 4 hours to complete depending on your pace and the weather conditions. The trail goes in between towering cliffs on the sides. So be prepared for a bit of adventure with climbing rocks and crossing rivers. The end of the trail brings you to Sa Calobra Beach.

Puig de Massanella
The second highest mountain on Mallorca, and the highest summit that can be accessed – 1364m – is truly a bucket list thing to do for all hikers.

  • Puig Major
The highest point in Mallorca with its 1,440 meters altitude. Unfortunately, it’s an area with a military radar, so it is not possible to access the top.

Cap de Formentor + Mirador de El Colomer
The northernmost point of Mallorca and one of the most breathtaking spots on the island. The drive can be a bit narrow, but the views along the way are worth every twist and turn. At the very tip is the lighthouse guiding ships since 1863.
If you’re up for it, there are hiking paths around that lead to even more stunning viewpoints.

Mirador de Sa Foradada
On the island’s northwestern coast, you will find this spot with one of the best panoramic views in Mallorca. Also, the rock formation with a large hole in it – hint, the name “foradada” means “pierced” in Catalan.

Serra de Tramuntana
This mountain range stretches about 90 kilometers on the island’s northern coast. The road takes you up and down and in hairpin bends through the mountains – no doubt, it’s the most scenic drive in Mallorca where every turn is another breathtaking panorama.

Cuevas del Drach

If you want to see something totally surreal, head to the Cuevas del Drach – the Dragon Caves.
These massive underground caves near Porto Cristo look like something from another world. Huge stalactites hanging from the ceiling, eerie formations, and the biggest underground lake in the world – where you actually get to take a boat ride. Oh, and before that, you get a live classical music concert inside the cave.

+1 Mallorca’s temperamental weather

Mallorca’s weather has a mind of its own with heavy mood swings. One minute, you’re enjoying the golden sun and blue skies, and the next, you’re in the middle of a tropical storm…
And when Mallorca decides to throw a storm, oh boy… – she doesn’t hold back.

We were on the road heading to Cala Figuera when it was a blob on the windshield. Then another one. “NaaAaah, just a drizzle”
Within minutes, the sky went full apocalypse, and the rain… Not just your regular rain – …the ankle-deep-in-second kind.
The streets turned into rivers, and cars were stopping on the road – it was wild, you couldn’t see where is the road. I’ve never experienced anything like this. But to the locals, this is nothing new… These sudden storms are totally normal, especially in late summer and early autumn – we visited in October.

And then… just like that, it’s over. The sun is shining again, and blue skies are back like nothing ever happened. People shaking off umbrellas, and cafes start pulling their outdoor tables back on the streets like… yeah, that was weird, but aAaAanyway… – who wants a sangria? 💃

So yeah, Mallorca has its moods – but honestly? That’s what makes this island unforgettable.
The island has a way of pulling you in… From white-sand beaches to dramatic cliffs, to quiet mountain trails, Mallorca is an island of contrasts.

And we’re just getting started…
This was just a glimpse of the island’s natural beauty, but there’s more… Oh, waaAaay more…
In the next part, I will show you the most beautiful villages hidden in the mountains. And, of course, it wouldn’t be complete without talking about the local food scene

So, stay tuned!

See you at the next one,

Noémi
