Okay people, so itโs October already – and while everyone else is going all in on pumpkin-spiced everything, for me this time of year means one thing: apple season, duh. โ …and also soups, but you probably know that from beforeโฆ
I opened this autumn with my quick and easy Tarta de Manzana the other day…
And now I had the sudden urge to jump on this TikTok train as well, and make these viral apple doughnuts. I’ve been bombarded with the recipe from every direction during the past week, and I couldn’t resist any longer.
… so here’s me trying Tik-Tok recipes to see if they are up for the hype or just a waste of time?

…Because honestly, who ever says no to a little dessert?
Ingredients:
- Apples
- Sugar
- Cinnamon powder
- Puff pastry sheets
- 1 egg
โฑ๏ธprep time: 30 minutes
โฑ๏ธbaking time: 25 minutes
๐ก๏ธbaking temperature: 180ยฐC

- Let’s start with prepping the apples. Peel them and cut them up in circles – … not too thick, not too thin, I would say, like a cm or so.
- Find something circular to cut out the core. For me, this was an alcohol measure thingy. What I would suggest is to make a decent hole in it. If it’s too small, it won’t be easy to fold the dough around it. – … I have to be honest, it will be an annoying maneuver enough already, till you catch the rhythm somewhere around the second batch…

- neeext: prep the dough.
- open the packaging, and roll it out – …duh.
- Cut it up into like 1 cm-ish strips. Also, you can try to do it a bit more even than I just did….

- Now, mix together the cinnamon and the sugar in a bowl.
- … and roll around the apple slices in it. Let it cover both sides nicely, please!

- …and now… ๐ญ … well, now… try to wrap the dough strips around the apple slices.
This process will make you cry probably, at one point. I’m not gonna lie, it’s gonna rip… it’s messy… You will want to throw the whole shit in the bin. I know… I’ve been there, just now. BuUuUut I swear, all the tears and sweat and cursing will be worth it at the end, because this thing is freaking delicious.
… or, a lifehack: just cut them in half, and make half moons, not doughnuts… Or wrap them around fully and forget the holes. Whatever really, it’s the same flavour – different shape… because Jesus please, take the goddamned wheel.

- neeext: give them an eggwash. No need to make a swimming pool here, just brush them well.
- Sprinkle their top generously with the cinnamon-y sugar.
- now, in the preheated oven they go for a good 25 minutes on 180ยฐC or until they are fluffy and golden – keep an eye on it, because when the puff pastry starts browning it will burn fast.
- … aaand, ta-daaa. Your apple doughnuts are ready.
- Now you can take a look at them, how beautifully they turned out.

- Let them cool down a bit, and then it will be easier to remove them from the paper. Try hard not to break them…

O to the M to the F to the G
… They are delicious as they are, but need to be eaten warm, like straight-from-the-oven warm.
If you feel like having a fancier dessert, then serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream – …because melty ice cream on warm pastry… duh!
So, the verdict: totally worth the hype – … if you make the half moons, not the doughnuts it’s definitely faster…
Aaaanyways,
See you at the next one,
Noรฉmi

weeeelll… ๐ it’s because some other creators in their “quick and easy recipes” forgot to mention that it is indeed a pain in the ass to wrap. BUT it is super tasty, that’s true ๐

Start in the middle of the strip and wrap in both directions? That seems as if it would reduce the โpull it through the middleโ pain.
Iโm probably not going to do this since I would make the pastry dough, too. If your rolling-pin skills are insufficient for the task, as mine are, running it through a pasta roller gets a nice even thinness. Maybe apple danishes as a compromise.
